Chen Guangcheng on Human Rights in China

Washington

"I chose to defend human rights in China simply because I cannot maintain my silence in the face of injustice," states blind Chinese activist and self-taught lawyer Chen Guangcheng in an interview with Freedom House. Chen discusses the challenges and human rights abuses his family has faced and why change in China is "inevitable." He concludes, "In order for human rights groups to do more in China, we need to believe that any work that can promote human rights will not be done in vain."
