Dutch Government Should Support EU Agreement with Ukraine
April 7, 2016
Following the Dutch referendum rejecting the EU Association Agreement with Ukraine, Freedom House released the following statement:
“The Dutch public’s rejection of an Association Agreement with Ukraine in a non-binding referendum is a disappointment for reformers in Ukraine but should not block the Dutch government from helping Ukraine’s move toward Europe,” said Mark. P. Lagon, president of Freedom House. “The Netherlands and other European states should support human rights, economic development and anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine by forging ahead with the Association Agreement while also pushing Ukraine to fulfill its commitments for reform."
