Freedom House Announces Search for New President
Following last week's decision by Freedom House President David J. Kramer to step down this fall after nearly four years in his leadership position, Freedom House Chairman of the Board, Kenneth I. Juster announced the search for the next President of the organization.
"We're very sad that David has decided to step down at this time. The Board has been extremely pleased with his leadership of Freedom House and the excellent work of the organization during his tenure,” Juster said. "He leaves big shoes to fill, but we are confident that we can find a successor who will keep Freedom House at the forefront of the struggle for freedom and democracy around the world in the years ahead."
"I'm proud of what Freedom House has accomplished over the past few years," Kramer said, "and the decision to step down was not an easy one for me. It has been an honor and privilege to have worked with some of the most dedicated and talented people I have ever met. I will deeply miss Freedom House and my great colleagues, and I thank the Board for giving me the opportunity and for supporting me and this wonderful team."
Juster noted that the Board hopes to have a new President in place this fall, and expressed appreciation to Kramer for his willingness to stay on until that time.
Freedom House is an independent watchdog organization that supports democratic change, monitors the status of freedom around the world, and advocates for democracy and human rights.
