Freedom House Mourns Death of Russian Rights Activist Elena Bonner
June 20, 2011
Freedom House mourns the death of Russian rights activist, Elena Bonner—one of the most outspoken champions of democracy in the former Soviet Union as an antidote to the system’s injustice. Freedom House had the privilege of working closely with Bonner on the establishment of the Andrei Sakharov Museum and Center in the years following the collapse of the communist state. Bonner remained a determined voice for democracy and human rights in post-Communist Russia until the day she died.
