Freedom House Testifies on Human Rights Violations in Belarus
April 7, 2011
Freedom House Executive Director David Kramer recently testified before Congress, outlining the steps necessary to end the violent and dictatorial rule of Aleksandr Lukashenka in Belarus. According to Kramer, imposing strict sanctions against state-run enterprises is the most effective way to undermine the Lushenka regime which “only understands pressure and strength”. Other essential steps Kramer believes are necessary include resuming material support for opposition and civil society and expediting the passing of the Belarus Democracy Reauthorization Act of 2011.
