Freedom House Urges States to Lead Protection of Free Expression Online
Freedom House will host a panel April 29 at the Freedom Online Coalition in Tallinn with leading free expression advocates to explore the role of states in protecting free expression online.
Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Human Rights Council Eileen Donahoe and UN Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression and Opinion Frank La Rue will be joined by Dutch Human Rights Ambassador Lionel Veer and Mexican digital rights activist Jesus Robles Maloof.
Building on the findings of the recently launched report, What Next? The Quest to Protect Journalists and Human Rights Defenders in a Digital World, the panel will highlight best practices among countries leading efforts to advance and protect freedom of expression online. It will also explore how the international community can best support states struggling to protect and defend freedom of expression, and counter trends in states seeking to undermine these values at home and abroad.
