Freedom House Urges Trump Administration to Reevaluate U.S.-Saudi Diplomatic Relationship

Washington

In response to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency’s conclusion that the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi was ordered by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Freedom House issued the following statement:

"Reports that the CIA has concluded that Mohammed bin Salman ordered the death of Jamal Khashoggi are extremely troubling.  His action demonstrates a profound contempt for human rights, freedom of the press, and rule of law.  It is clear there must be significant changes to the U.S.-Saudi diplomatic relationship as long as Mohammed bin Salman remains crown prince of Saudi Arabia,” said Michael Abramowitz, president of Freedom House. “As an immediate first step, the administration should expand its Global Magnitsky sanctions list to include Mohammed bin Salman and all others who were involved in ordering and carrying out Khashoggi's murder."
