The number of people worldwide with access to free and independent media declined to its lowest level in over a decade, according to the findings from Freedom of the Press 2011 which was recently released by Freedom House in conjunction with UNESCO’s World Press Freedom Day. An overview of the results of the report served as kick off for the two-day UNESCO event hosted by the United States in Washington, DC. Freedom House capped the two-day event with a reception on Capitol Hill sponsored by co-chairs of the Press Freedom Caucus, Congressmen Adam Schiff and Mike Pence
