Gambia Passes Draconian anti-LGBTI Law

Following reports that Gambian President Yaya Jammeh signed a draconian law mandating life imprisonment for individuals perceived to be LGBTI in The Gambia, Freedom House issued the following statement:

"Passage of this law violates the fundamental human rights of Gambian citizens and continues a worrisome anti-LGBTI regional trend across West Africa" said Maïté Hostetter, program officer for West Africa at Freedom House. "This is a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights.”
