Jyllands-Posten Foundation Renews Support for Press Freedom Report

Washington, D.C.

Freedom House has received a $50,000 donation from the Jyllands-Posten Fond to renew its support for Freedom of the Press, Freedom House’s annual survey of media independence. The survey assesses the degree of media freedom in 197 countries and territories each year. This will be the fourth consecutive year of support for Freedom of the Press by Jyllands-Posten.

“With the generous support of the Jyllands-Posten Foundation, Freedom House is able to stay at the forefront in monitoring trends and threats for media independence,” said David J. Kramer, president of Freedom House. “Since 1980, Freedom of the Press has provided a critical resource for policy-makers, journalists, and free expression advocates to strengthen media freedom."

Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten is one of Denmark’s most widely read newspapers, with a strong reputation for unbiased news and forthright opinions. Editorial independence, a broad international horizon and a solid commitment to journalistic accuracy and reliability have been the guiding principles behind Jyllands-Posten’s success. Currently Jyllands-Posten has full-time staff correspondents in more than 15 countries around the world.

“The Jyllands-Posten Fond has provided a valuable contribution to Freedom House’s research and analysis for four years,” said Kramer. “We are deeply honored to have their continued support, which is critical to our ability to publish our assessments on Freedom of the Press.”
