Letter from EU Parliamentarians Rejects Visa-Free Travel for Russian Officials
June 14, 2013
Freedom House welcomes the letter from 46 Members of the European Parliament to European Union (EU) foreign ministers expressing deep reservations about the proposal to allow Russian officials to enter the EU without a visa. This proposal, if adopted, would grant visa-free entry to Russian officials involved in human rights abuses, including the death of Sergei Magnitsky. The European Parliamentarians also called on the European Council to adopt a Magnitsky law to deny visas to Russian officials complicit in human rights violations.
