Libyan Activists Eager to Participate in Civil Society
March 29, 2012
After decades of repression, Libyans are increasingly eager to contribute to the advancement of their country; Freedom House was inspired by their motivation and enthusiasm during a recent training in Libya. Staff spent a week on the ground training more than 100 activists on campaign strategies, and journalists on media professionalism. Participants developed campaigns to raise political awareness ahead of the June 2012 elections, promote transitional justice as a source for national reconciliation, and advance journalistic ethics and standards.
Freedom House is an independent watchdog organization that supports democratic change, monitors the status of freedom around the world, and advocates for democracy and human rights.
