Nations in Transit 2003 Available
Nations in Transit, Freedom House's annual survey of political and economic transition in the 27 former communist states of Eastern and Central Europe and the former Soviet Union, is now available on the Freedom House website.
The report, including individual country analyses, charts, tables, and maps, can be found online.
Nations in Transit 2003 provides comprehensive analysis of post-Communist transitions by tracking changes in electoral processes; civil society; independent media; governance; corruption; and constitutional, legislative, and judicial frameworks. It also provides a unique set of comparative ratings and averaged scores for democratization and the rule of law. The ratings are based on a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 representing the highest level of democratic development and 7 the lowest.
In addition to the annual Nations in Transit survey, Freedom House also publishes Freedom in the World, an annual global survey of political rights and civil liberties, and Freedom of the Press, an annual global survey of press freedom.
Freedom in the World 2003 is available online.
Freedom of the Press 2003 is available as well.
