Senator Menendez: Latin American Governments Must Respect Free Expression

Senator Robert Menendez expressed concern with the state of media freedom in Latin America at a panel hosted by Freedom House, and reiterated his concerns at a press conference with Senator Marco Rubio. Argentinian journalist Adrian Ventura, Fundamedios director Cesar Ricaurte, and Espacio Publico director Carlos Correa addressed the challenges to press freedom in the region, including legal and administrative restrictions imposed on media, hostile government rhetoric against the press, and attempts to weaken the office of the Organization of American States Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression.
