Setting an Agenda for Zambia’s New President after Peaceful Elections

In response to the people of Zambia conducting peaceful presidential elections, Freedom House issued the following statement:

“Freedom House calls on President Lungu to return Zambia to the path of democracy” said  Vukasin Petrovic, director of Africa programs. “We urge the president to ensure that the new draft constitution is submitted to a referendum, that he reform the Civil Society Act in consultation with civil society organizations, and work to improve relations with the country’s media.

Zambia is rated Partly Free in Freedom in the World 2014, Not Free in Freedom of the Press 2014and Partly Free in Freedom on the Net 2014
