Uganda: Electoral Reform Still Needed after Court Decision
The Ugandan Supreme COurt has dismissed presidential candidate's Amama Mbabazi's challenge of the February election results.

Following the Uganda Supreme Court’s dismissal of presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi's challenge of the February election results, Freedom House issued the following statement:
“The Supreme Court's decision does not mean the electoral process was not deeply flawed,” said Vukasin Petrovic, director for Africa programs. “In light of the many irregularities documented by national and international observers, the government of Uganda should undertake meaningful reform of the electoral system and participate in peaceful dialogue to address citizens' grievances. The government should also immediately release Dr. Kizza Besigye, another opposition candidate, from his unlawful house arrest.”
Uganda is rated Not Free in Freedom in the World 2016, Partly Free in Freedom of the Press 2015, and Partly Free in Freedom on the Net 2015.
