U.S. Must Respect Human Rights in Combating Terrorism
December 10, 2014
In response to the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee's report on Central Intelligence Agency activities at detention sites and its interrogation of terrorism suspects, Freedom House issued the following statement:
"In combating terrorism, the United States should be a model for the world in protecting fundamental rights and freedoms. The Senate report documents harsh CIA interrogation techniques. Torture and inhumane acts are never justified. The United States has the responsibility to uphold its values and human rights obligations in its counter-terrorism policy and to ensure appropriate oversight of counter-terrorism activities."
