Freedom House is concerned for the safety of Cameroonian human rights defender, Maximilienne Ngo Mbe, after she has received numerous threats to her life and the lives of her family. Freedom House calls on Cameroonian authorities to protect Ms. Ngo Mbe and denounces this harassment.

The case of political prisoner Michel Thierry Atangana in Cameroon will reach a critical juncture tomorrow as the prosecution plans to rest its case with regards to new embezzlement charges against him. The hearing is an opportunity to withdraw the charges as opposed to handing the case over to the judges.

Phillipe Nanga, Cyrille Bechon, and Herve Nzousabet, leaders of local human rights organizations in Cameroon, were detained on April 11 as they sought to meet with the Speaker of the National Assembly to discuss the draft Electoral Code which is being debated during an extraordinary session of parliament.

A workshop held on March 27 by SID’ADO (YOUTH AGAINST HIV/AIDS), a registered Cameroonian civic organization, focusing on human rights and sexual orientation was interrupted by demonstrators who declared that homosexuality is illegal in Cameroon and that the meeting would not take place. It was reported that Cameroonian officials actively joined the demonstrations  and effectively shut down the workshop despite having previously allowed the group to register the event.
