The release of the Zone 9 Bloggers in October was greeted with euphoria, but the Ethiopia's crackdown on dissent continues unabated.

Freedom House strongly opposes the election of Burundi, Ethiopia, and Togo to the UN Human Rights Council. 

In response to the decision of the Federal High court in Addis Ababa to drop terrorism charges against five members of the Zone 9 bloggers, Freedom House issued the following statement:

President Obama unfortunately was fundamentally wrong in his comments about the parliamentary elections Ethiopia held in May.
