Karin Karlekar, Project Director of Freedom of the Press at Freedom House, was interviewed by the Council on Foriegn Relations on the future of journalism in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attacks. 

 Freedom House condems the horrific attack on the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, which left at least 12 dead and 20 others wounded. 

The world’s leading democracies have a poor record of responding to the rise of authoritarianism in their own regions, according to a Freedom House report released today.

Evaluation of 2008-2011 UN Human Rights Council Candidates

On May 21, 2008, the UN General Assembly will elect 15 new Human Rights Council members. Twenty countries are candidates. Freedom House and UN Watch evaluated each candidate’s suitability for election to the Human Rights Council by examining its record of human rights protection at home and its record of human rights promotion at the UN.
