Freedom House félicite Mr. Biram Dah Abeid, président et fondateur de l’organisation de droits de l’homme IRA-Mauritanie (Initiative pour la Résurgence du Mouvement Abolitionniste), d’avoir remporté le Prix des Droits de l'Homme des Nations Unies 2013. Cette récompense prestigieuse est décernée tous les cinq ans à des individus exceptionnels qui luttent pour la promotion et la protection des droits de l’homme. Mr. Biram Dah Abeid partage l’honneur d’avoir reçu ce prix avec des personnalités remarquables, parmi lesquelles René Cassin, Taha Hussein, Benazir Bhutto, Jimmy Carter, Martin Luther King Jr., et Nelson Mandela.

Freedom House congratulates Mr. Biram Dah Abeid, president and founder of human rights organization IRA-Mauritania (Initiative pour la Résurgence du Mouvement Abolitionniste), on receiving the 2013 United Nations Human Rights Prize, a prestigious award given every five years to exceptional individuals that promote and protect human rights. Mr. Dah Abeid shares the award with many other notable figures, including René Cassin, Taha Hussein, Benazir Bhutto, Jimmy Carter, Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela.

Freedom House today called into question the African Union’s decision to appoint the presidents of Chad and Mauritania to a panel tasked with solving the current leadership crisis in Côte d’Ivoire.

Freedom House is extremely disappointed by the decision of the United Nations General Assembly to elect conspicuously unqualified candidates-including Libya
