Freedom House Policy on Donations

Freedom House welcomes donations from business corporations, foundations and individuals. Funding from diverse sources enables Freedom House to pursue its mission and maintain its independence.

Freedom House may receive funding from donors provided that acceptance of such donations does not:

  • impair our ability to operate independently or to speak out forcefully for freedom, human rights, and democracy in the U.S. and abroad
  • undermine the independence of our research and analysis
  • endanger our reputation

Freedom House may refuse donations that may limit our ability to carry out our work or that are made by entities whose activities might be in conflict with Freedom House’s mission.

Acceptance of donations does not constitute or imply any endorsement of the donor’s policies, practices, actions, or record. Donors that are complicit in human rights violations can expect the same clear and direct criticism by Freedom House as any other entity or individual involved in human rights abuses.

Donors may not use the Freedom House logo without prior written consent.
