Freedom House will host Mr. Stavros Lambrinidis, European Union Special Representative for Human Rights, for a conversation on the importance of European human rights diplomacy in an environment where the universality of human rights is being attacked. He will speak about key challenges around the world and EU policies and diplomatic efforts to enhance respect for human rights.

Mr. Lambrinidis was appointed as the first thematic Special Representative after the EU's Strategic Framework and Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy was adopted in June 2012. The broad mandate of his post covers strengthening democracy, international justice, humanitarian law, and the abolition of the death penalty. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Lambrinidis served the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece in 2011 and the Vice President of the European Parliament from 2009-2011. 

Lunch will be served at noon, the program will begin at 12:30 p.m.
