Senior Research Analyst for Technology and Elections
Philip Friedrich is a senior research analyst for technology and elections, overseeing Freedom House’s Election Watch for the Digital Age initiative. Prior to joining Freedom House, Philip worked as a researcher on a Civic Integrity Research team at Facebook. His team used hyperlocal qualitative research to generate product and policy recommendations that focused on protecting people and societies from harm and empowering them to engage in the digital realm – including during elections in Myanmar, India, and Ethiopia. He holds a PhD in South Asia Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, an MA in Religious Studies from the University of Chicago, and a BA in Religion from Bowdoin College. His academic research, writing, and teaching has focused on the intersection of religion and politics in Sri Lanka.
