Alexis L. Schuler

Vice President, Advocacy and Communications

Alexis L. Schuler is vice president for communications and advocacy and has spent more than twenty years working at the intersection of politics and policy in Washington, D.C.  Prior to joining Freedom House, she was a senior director at the Pew Charitable Trusts where she oversaw a diverse portfolio of bipartisan state policy initiatives including criminal justice reform, expanding access to healthcare, and strengthening the administration of elections.

Prior to joining Pew, Alexis was a managing director at CLS Associates where she provided strategic counsel to corporate, association and non-profit clients to advance communications and policy goals at the federal and state and local level.

Alexis has also served as the communications director for the Alliance for Justice during the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, where she developed and implemented a communications strategy in coordination with a coalition of more than forty progressive organizations. Additionally, she has run her own political research and communications consulting firm working with presidential, senatorial, and gubernatorial campaigns.

She holds bachelor’s degrees in both zoology and paleontology from the University of California at Berkeley, and conducted doctoral work in biology at the University of New Mexico.
