Christian Bowman
Vice President for Talent and Culture
Christian Bowman is Vice President for Talent and Culture and leads Freedom House’s strategic objective to develop a global human resource function with a focus on culture, engagement, and performance. This includes recruitment and retention, talent management, compensation, benefits, etc. Working closely with the Operations and DEI units, he also champions Freedom House’s efforts to build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace where all staff worldwide feel they belong.
For over six years, Christian has served as the Senior Director of Human Resources at Chemonics International. Previously, Christian held senior Human Resource (HR) leadership positions at FHI 360, Creative Associates, RTI, AED, and International Rescue Committee. Christian has extensive experience working with talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, performance management, HR information systems, DEI, data analytics, talent management, employee relations, and capacity building. He has led, managed, and motivated teams of HR professionals and effectively worked across departments and programs in very fast paced and challenging international environments.
Christian has demonstrated his HR technical competence and empathy by developing policies and programs across geographies to address local circumstances and needs while also advancing the broader organizational point of view. Christian earned a BA in Political Science from California State University, Chico and a MPA degree in Public and Non-profit Management from the Wagner School of Public Service at NYU and maintains a Senior Human Resources Professional (SPHR) certification from the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana and resided in Geneva, Switzerland through his work at IRC. Additionally, he has extensive international field and travel experience.
