Freedom House is deeply concerned by the violence that followed peaceful student-led marches across Venezuela on February 12, in which at least three people died. We urge the Venezuelan government to take immediate steps to restore the right to peaceful protest and to investigate the deaths.

Freedom House se encuentra profundamente consternado por la violencia que se ha desatado en las manifestaciones pacíficas de los estudiantes en toda Venezuela este 12 de Febrero, en las que murieron al menos tres personas. Instamos al gobierno de Venezuela que tome acciones inmediatas para restaurar el derecho a protestar pacíficamente y que investigue las muertes ocurridas el pasado miércoles.

Freedom House urges the Chinese government to issue visas to Taiwanese reporters so far denied entry, preventing them from covering cross-strait meetings occurring this week in China.

UPDATE: February 24, 2014 - Freedom House condemns the latest attack on Nguyen Bac Truyen and remains concerned for his safety. Plainclothes officers attacked Truyen and his wife on February 24 while they were on their way to a meeting at the Australian Embassy in Hanoi to discuss an earlier assault.

The Turkish parliament’s approval February 5 of legislation allowing the government to block websites without a court order significantly undermines internet freedom and citizens’ freedom of speech, Freedom House said.

 

Freedom House condemns the decision of Angolan courts and prosecutors to move forward with defamation changes against journalist and human rights advocate Rafael Marques de Morais. Their decision is a violation of the universally-recognized right to freedom of speech and a clear attempt to silence Angola’s independent civil society.

ترى مؤسسة بيت الحرية أنّه على الملك حمد بن عيسى آل خليفة ملك البحرين إلغاء القانون الجديد الذى قام بفرض عقوبات بالسجن على كل من يهين الملك او الرموز الوطنية فى العلن ، وهو الإجراء الذى يمثّل انتهاكاً للحقوق الأساسية لحرية التعبير.
