Members of the U.S. government – including Congress, the State Department and White House – and European governments issued public statements in response to the recent decision to convict 43 non-governmental organization (NGO) workers.

Freedom House released the latest edition of its report, 'Freedom of the Press 2013,' on May 1st. See a selection of key Tweets from our followers on the day of the report release.

Members of the European Parliament, speaking at the European launch of  Freedom in the World 2013, proposed additional measures to support human rights around the world.

Freedom House is saddened by the death of former Freedom House Trustee, John T. Joyce. John had a long and distinguished career as a labor movement leader and was highly regarded within the industry for his tireless efforts to secure the rights of workers everywhere to freely associate and organize in order to improve their lives and working conditions.

"Every one of us has a social responsibility to the human beings in Bahrain," stated Maryam Al-Khawaja on February 14th at a discussion on Capitol Hill cohosted by Freedom House and Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain.

To commemorate the two-year anniversary of the Bahrain uprisings on February 14, Freedom House released our new video, in which Freedom House 2012 Freedom Award recipient Maryam Al-Khawaja speaks about Bahrain's revolution and her family's struggle to promote human rights in Bahrain.

Freedom House lost a champion of the global struggle for human rights with the passing of Ambassador Mark Palmer.
