In this report, an independent, bipartisan task force calls for renewed American leadership to strengthen the United Nations' credibility and to make UN human rights monitoring and counter-terrorism efforts more effective. The task force, whose members include former officials from Democratic and Republican administrations, leading scholars, and nongovernmental leaders, urges the United States to enhance its effectiveness at the UN around an agenda of cooperation among the UN's democratic member states and promotion of more vigorous human rights and counter-terrorism initiatives. Such an effort can strengthen the UN's credibility, enhance American leadership within the world body, and bring greater effectiveness to UN counter-terrorism efforts, the task force concludes.
