China Dissent Monitor
Freedom House’s database and research tool tracks the frequency and diversity of dissent in China.
We are pleased to announce the relaunch of the China Dissent Monitor! Thanks to the generous support of individual donors, the project is now back online after being terminated due to the recent freeze in US government foreign aid funding. While we are excited to restart this important work, we only have enough funding to last the next 60 days. We urgently need more support to sustain the future of this resource—which fills a critical information gap in a country with severe media restrictions and risks associated with exposing dissent. Please contact [email protected] or visit our donation page to pledge your support for this vital project.
Despite increasingly repressive rule under the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), dissent in China occurs regularly and is geographically widespread. The China Dissent Monitor features interactive research on collective action in public spaces and cases of online dissent, filling a critical information gap in a country with severe media restrictions and risks associated with exposing dissent.
