About Freedom House

Established more than 80 years ago on the core conviction that freedom flourishes in democratic nations where governments are accountable to their people, Freedom House is a nonpartisan non-profit organization that works to defend and expand freedom globally to help secure a world where all are free.

Around the world, repressive regimes are preventing billions of people from exercising their fundamental rights. We identify and analyze threats to freedom, mobilize decision-makers to respond to those threats and seize opportunities for progress, and support activists and organizations working to defend and expand freedom.

We are dedicated to ensuring that the United States serves as a positive model of democratic practice at home and a consistent champion of freedom globally. By gathering authoritative data and leveraging our global networks, Freedom House is an unwavering beacon in protecting human rights and promoting democratic governance.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

We are passionate human rights and democracy professionals, researchers, advocates, technical experts, and support staff with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities who are a force for democracy and hope.

We strongly believe that diversity—in identities, beliefs, and life experiences—makes our work stronger. We recognize that to achieve our vision of a world where all people live freely, we must be an organization that attracts and retains a diverse workforce; has a culture of inclusion, belonging, and respect for all differences; and embeds the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all we do.

The candidates we look for

With programs in countries around the world that offer opportunities to grow within the organization and learn from the rich experiences of our global staff, we seek candidates with an array of backgrounds and skills. We believe our people are our most important resource and value their diversity of viewpoints, deep commitment to democracy, and entrepreneurial drive, all of which help make Freedom House a more effective and impactful organization.

We are looking for candidates who care deeply about global democracy and human rights, and who are committed to nonpartisanship and democratic values. We encourage candidates of all backgrounds—particularly Black, Indigenous, and people of color, individuals from the LGBTI+ community, and people living with disabilities—to apply.
