Amy Slipowitz

Research Manager, Democracy Studies

Amy is a researcher for Freedom House’s annual flagship report, Freedom in the World, and is the co-author of the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2026 editions. She also contributes to Freedom on the Net as the report’s regional lead for Latin America, and developed and co-authored several research outputs for Free Them All: The Fred Hiatt Program to Free Political Prisoners, including Visible and Invisible Bars, No Way In or Out: Authoritarian Controls on the Freedom of Movement, and Justice in Shackles: The Global Persecution of Judges and Lawyers. Prior to joining Freedom House, Amy worked on the research team at the education organization DonorsChoose.org, and at a private investment management firm. She holds a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where she specialized in human rights policy, and a BA in economics and American Studies from Colby College.
