Igor Ngima
Project Director, Burkina Faso
Igor Ngima is the Freedom House project director in Burkina Faso. He is a legal professional with a background in international human rights law and international humanitarian law. He has worked in several French-speaking African countries in crisis or post-crisis (Burkina Faso, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo, DRC, Cameroon) over the past ten years.
Igor has held various positions at Human Rights Watch (HRW), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Joint Human Rights Office (UNJHRO) of MONUSCO, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He possesses an extensive knowledge of human rights data collection and reporting standards, as well as experience with databases used by UN agencies, NGOs (international and local) and national human rights institutions.
In the past, he conducted a mapping study of legal protection and support mechanisms for key populations in 16 French-speaking African countries. He also coordinated a study on the protection mechanisms - including psychosocial support - available to human rights defenders in six African countries (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Togo).
