Freedom House's Report on Beijing's Global Media Influence

Beijing’s Global Media Influence: Authoritarian Expansion and the Power of Democratic Resilience, offers the most comprehensive assessment to date of Beijing’s global media influence and the ways in which democracies are responding. It draws on media investigations, interviews, scholarly publications, Chinese government sources, and on-the-ground research by local analysts in 30 countries, and includes in-depth case studies for each country, appraising the scale and scope of CCP media influence efforts and the strength of the local response. The report also offers recommendations on how democracies can improve their performance.

Editorial Policy

Freedom House is founded on the core conviction that freedom flourishes in democratic nations where governments are accountable to their people. We speak out against threats to democracy and empower individuals to exercise their fundamental rights through a unique combination of analysis, advocacy, and direct support to frontline defenders of freedom, especially those working in closed authoritarian societies.

The strength and reputation of our work, and of Freedom House itself, depend on processes that are free of external interference. While we consult widely, final decisions regarding our reports and analysis are made by Freedom House staff in the interest of our vitally important mission of advancing democracy and freedom worldwide. Freedom House’s research work is produced through established procedures that are independent of our donors or any other party.
