Juri Jurkevitš
Former Program Director, Freedom House Ukraine
Juri Jurkevitš was the Program Director at Freedom House Ukraine, with over two decades of experience in human rights, political advocacy, and international affairs, primarily focusing on Eastern Europe. He led programs on freedom of expression, civic oversight, combating hate-motivated violence, and international accountability for war crimes in Ukraine. His expertise spans Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, the Baltic states, and Poland.
Prior to joining Freedom House, Mr. Jurkevitš worked across the nonprofit, private, governmental, and academic sectors, focusing on political and civic advocacy. At the National Democratic Institute, he managed media and political discussion programs, led strategic communications efforts, and organized outreach for political and civic initiatives. His previous work included programming with online media outlets, video bloggers, partnerships with investigative journalism groups and citizen-led news reporting platforms in Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia.
Mr. Jurkevitš holds an MA in Preservation and Interpretation of Cultural Heritage from the European Humanities University and an MA in Eastern European and Russian Studies from the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University.
