Phumelele Mncina
2024-2025 Freedom in the World Junior Fellow for West, Central, & Southern Africa
Phumelele Mncina was the 2024-25 Freedom in the World Junior Fellow for West, Central, and Southern Africa. She graduated from St. Olaf College in 2024 with a B.A. in Political Science and Race and Ethnic Studies. Phumelele is interested in how women’s political participation can affect the democratic mobilization in a state. She is further interested in how pluralism in a state can create a force to withstand authoritarian repression. Before joining Freedom House, Phumelele worked towards enhancing women’s political participation in Eswatini.
