In response to the murder of prominent blogger Niloy Neel in Bangladesh on August 7, Freedom House issued the following statement:

“Freedom House strongly condemns the targeted murder of Bangladeshi blogger Niloy Neel,” said Daniel Calingaert, executive vice president. “This is the fourth such murder against a blogger this year and is designed to send a chilling message to those exercising their right to free expression and religious liberty in Bangladesh. We call on authorities to vigorously pursue and bring to justice those responsible for this heinous act.”
A group of attackers brutally hacked to death blogger Niladri Chaterjee, known online as Niloy Neel, who posted online pieces critical of Islam, and blogged about women's and minority rights, communal violence and the oppression of Hindus in Bangladesh.
