Copenhagen Attacks Targeted Democracy, Basic Freedoms
In response to a gunman’s attack on a Copenhagen café where political cartoons were being discussed and then on the city’s main synagogue, killing two people, Freedom House issued the following statement.

In response to a gunman’s attack on a Copenhagen café where political cartoons were being discussed and then on the city’s main synagogue, killing two people, Freedom House issued the following statement:
“Freedom House is deeply saddened by the attacks in Copenhagen, which targeted the freedoms and tolerance that are central parts of Denmark’s democracy,” said Daniel Calingaert, executive vice president. “The most important response is a robust defense of democracy and the fundamental freedoms it guarantees.”
Denmark is rated Free in Freedom in the World 2015 and Freedom of the Press 2014.
