Ethiopia Releases Three Members of 'Zone 9' Case

In response to Ethiopia's release today of three members of the Zone 9 bloggers and journalists from prison, Freedom House issued the following statement:

"We welcome the release of three of the nine journalists and bloggers-- Tesfalem Waldeyes, Asmamaw Hailegiorgis, and Zelalem Kibret," said Vukasin Petrovic, director of Africa programs. ‘They were imprisoned for exercising their constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression. Freedom House urges the Ethiopian government to drop all charges and release the remaining six journalists and bloggers."

Ethiopia is rated Not Free in Freedom in the World 2015, Not Free in Freedom of the Press 2015, and Not Free in Freedom on the Net 2014.
