Ethiopia's Elections Lack Credibility

In response to Ethiopia’s general elections, which took place on May 24, Freedom House issued the following statement:

“The elections were conducted in a highly restricted political environment that precluded the possibility of a free and fair election”, said Daniel Calingaert, Executive Vice President. “Election day was marred by widespread intimidation of opposition activists including the arrest and detention of poll watchers in many parts of the country, further confirming the flawed nature of the electoral process.”

Ethiopia is rated Not Free in Freedom in the World 2015, Not Free in Freedom of the Press 2015, and Not Free in Freedom on the Net 2014
