Freedom House Welcomes New Staff Union

WASHINGTON—Freedom House president Michael J. Abramowitz issued the following statement welcoming the news of the recent staff vote to unionize:  

“I welcome the recent vote by Freedom House staff to unionize and we congratulate the new members of OPEIU Local 153.  

The right of workers to organize is a fundamental democratic value that Freedom House has supported around the world for decades. It is a foundational part of our broader efforts to defend and expand freedom globally.  

Throughout our more than 80-year history, Freedom House’s successes have only been made possible because of the dedicated and passionate work of our team in the United States and around the world and we look forward to working together to make Freedom House the best organization it can be. 

We commit to a cooperative partnership with the union throughout the collective bargaining process as Freedom House continues to work toward a world where all are free.”
