Tanzanians Vote in Multi-Party Presidential Poll

As Tanzanians head to the polls on October 25 in what may be the most closely-contested presidential elections in the history of the country’s multi-party democracy, Freedom House issued the following statement:

“Tanzania has provided East Africa an important example of free and credible elections and now has an opportunity to build upon this reputation,” said Vukasin Petrovic, director of Africa programs. “We urge all parties and candidates to respect the electoral process, and for their supporters to vote peacefully.”

Tanzania is rated Partly Free in Freedom in the World 2015 and Partly Free in Freedom of the Press 2015
