St. Vincent and the Grenadines is a parliamentary democracy that holds regular elections and has seen numerous transfers of power between parties. While civil liberties are generally upheld, journalists face the possibility of criminal defamation charges, and same-sex sexual relations remain illegal. Violent crime remains a concern.
- In February, the High Court upheld two colonial-era laws that criminalize consensual same-sex conduct.
- In March, a firearms amnesty program was launched, allowing individuals to surrender illegal weapons and ammunition without penalty, and in April, Parliament passed legislation to stiffen penalties for firearm offences. However, the homicide rate remained high, with 55 homicides reported in 2023 and 54 in 2024.
