Denver Democracy Forum 2021

Denver Democracy Forum 2021

The Denver Democracy Forum takes stock of current global trends in democratic governance, explores what is at the root of democratic erosion, and examines both the imperative and the potential for reinstating and bolstering democracy globally.

About the Event

Date

February 25-26, 2021

Time

9:45 am — 10:30 am EST

Freedom House President Michael J. Abramowitz joined former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright at the Korbel School’s Denver Democracy Summit for a joint session on ‘The State of Democracy Around the World.’ More than 60 speakers and 3,000 participants participated in the two-day event.

The Denver Democracy Summit was hosted virtually by the Josef Korbel School of International Studies in partnership with the Alliance of Democracies Foundation. The event was a complement to the Copenhagen Democracy Summit, a high-level strategic forum organized by the Alliance of Democracies Foundation over the summer of 2020.

Through keynote speakers and moderated panels, the Summit explored four key themes:

  • The State of U.S. Democracy
  • Democratic Erosion Around the World
  • Climate Change, COVID-19, Disinformation and Other Existential Threats to Democratic Governance
  • Civic Engagement

Recordings from this year's sessions are available on the Korbel School YouTube Channel.
