On behalf of the Latin American Human Rights Consortium – an initiative that brings together Freedom House, The Pan American Development Foundation (PADF), and the Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights (Race and Equality) – you are invited to the Summit of the Americas side event “Jailed For What? People Imprisoned for Political Reasons in Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela." 

The event will take place on June 8th at 4:00PM PT/7:00pm ET virtually and in person at Hotel Indigo in Los Angeles. 

This event aims to promote dialogue and reflection on the conditions experienced by political prisoners in the Latin American and Caribbean region. The panel includes Ms. Uzra Zeya, US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights, Mr. Edgar Stuardo Ralón, Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons Deprived of Liberty of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and Nicaraguan, Venezuelan, and Cuban human rights defenders who have experienced – personally or through close friends or relatives – imprisonment for political reasons.

En nombre del Consorcio Latinoamericano de Derechos Humanos -- iniciativa conformada por Freedom House, la Fundación Panamericana para el Desarrollo (PADF) y el Instituto sobre Raza, Igualdad y Derechos Humanos (Race & Equality) -- tenemos el agrado de invitarle al evento “¿Presos por qué? Personas presas políticas en Cuba, Nicaragua y Venezuela.”  

El encuentro tendrá lugar el 08 de junio de 2022 a las 4:00 PM PT / 7:00 PM ET en el Hotel en Los Angeles y por Zoom.

El evento persigue promover el diálogo y la reflexión en torno a las condiciones que experimentan las personas privadas de libertad por razones políticas. El panel estará conformado por la Sra. Uzra Zeya, Subsecretaria de seguridad civil, democracia y derechos humanos de los Estados Unidos, el Sr. Edgar Stuardo Ralón, Relator sobre los derechos de las personas privadas de libertad de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, así como por defensores de derechos humanos nicaragüenses, venezolanos, y cubanos, quienes – personalmente o a través de sus familiares y allegados– han experimentado encarcelamiento por motivos políticos.
