Join Sarah Cook, Freedom House's Research Director for China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and other experts as they discuss the findings of Freedom House’s newest report – Beijing’s Global Media Influence: Authoritarian Expansion and the Power of Democratic Resilience. The report documents how the Chinese government is accelerating its efforts to influence news coverage and commentary in democracies worldwide, including through the use of covert and coercive tactics. Learn which countries are under the highest pressure from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and how journalists, activists, and governments are pushing back to mitigate the impact of the campaign.

After presenting the report’s findings, Freedom House's China team will be joined by a panel of experts for a lively discussion on the implications of the report’s findings:

  • Dr. Cliff Mboya, Africa-China analyst
  • William Yang, East Asia Correspondent, Deutsche Welle
  • Sarah Cook, Lead report author, Freedom House
  • Dr. Andrew J. Nathan, Professor of Political Science, Columbia University
