The Risk to Democracy: Our World and the Challenge of Authoritarian Regimes

Location
There has been a troubling rise in the number of authoritarian leaders and regimes around the world. We have seen some of the impact with war in Europe, increased tensions in Asia, and the restriction of long-standing rights for many people.
In this special Fireside Chat event, we will assemble at the University Club in Washington, DC to try to understand the reasons why the world has turned so authoritarian, what the future might bring, and how the HBS DC Alumni community might impact this outcome.
Harvard Business School alumnus Paul Centenari will moderate a discussion with Michael J. Abramowitz, president of Freedom House. Abramowitz previously directed the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Levine Institute for Holocaust Education, prior to which he led the museum’s genocide prevention efforts. He spent the first 24 years of his career at The Washington Post, where he was national editor and then White House correspondent. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and he was formally a Marshall Memorial fellow at the German Marshall Fund and media fellow at the Hoover Institution.
