This year, an estimated 4 billion people from over 60 nations — almost half the world’s population — will head to the polls in national elections. From Mexico to South Korea to the European Union to South Africa, the consequences of these outcomes will be significant and potentially impact the world. In Taiwan, there is a new president who challenges Beijing with his pro-sovereignty views; in some cases, democracies will be challenged, in others, long ruling parties may falter. Come hear about the world from those who have traveled it. Featuring Freedom House executive vice president and CEG Democracy Fellow Nicole Bibbins Sedaca, former commander of the U.S. Pacific Command Admiral Harry B. Harris Jr., South Africa-based journalist Crystal Orderson, and Sadia Sindhu, executive director of the Center for Effective Government.

This event is a part of the UChicago IOP Speaker Series and is co-sponsored by the Center for Effective Government. Food provided. If you have any questions about accessibility, please contact [email protected].
