Freedom House Mourns Passing of Madeleine Albright, Formidable Diplomat and Champion of Freedom

“We are left crestfallen by the passing of Madeleine Albright, one of our fiercest champions for freedom, democracy, and the rights of women,” said Michael J. Abramowitz, president of Freedom House. “Madeleine came to the United States seeking refuge from the ravages of fascism and the oppression of communism and devoted her incredible career to combatting tyranny, because she understood that the future of American freedom is inextricable from the future of freedom globally. We have lost a giant at a time when democracy is once again in pitched battle against rising authoritarianism. We most honor Madeleine’s legacy by rededicating ourselves to the fight to defend democracy and human rights and to seek to create a world where all are free.”
