Transnational Repression: A Threat to Human Rights in Europe

In a world of globalization, repressive states are increasingly transcending territorial borders to target populations who have fled abuses at home to seek safety abroad. Through tactics such as killings, abductions, abuse of extradition proceedings, digital surveillance, repressive states do not shy away from transnational repression, intimidating and coercing those beyond their territorial jurisdiction whom they see as dissidents, troublemakers, or threats. Freedom House joins, Human Rights Watch, Citizen Lab and MEP Hannah Neumann for a roundtable discussion on key trends of transnational repression within the EU and globally, and its impact on human rights defenders or critics having left their countries.
